Kid Rock’s Michigan Festival Faces Backlash as Fans Slam Event Organization

Kid Rock’s home-state appearance at Rock the Country brought a major lineup of country and rock performers to Hastings, Michigan, but the weekend also generated criticism from some attendees who were unhappy with the festival experience.

Rock the Country was held at the Barry Expo Center on August 8 and 9, 2026, with Kid Rock performing on Saturday and Jason Aldean appearing on Sunday. Brantley Gilbert, Ashley Cooke, Treaty Oak Revival, Chase Matthew, Uncle Kracker and Shenandoah were among the other performers advertised for the Michigan stop. While the artists were a major attraction, some festivalgoers subsequently took to social media to criticize the event’s organization, venue conditions and overall experience.

Some Attendees Called It Their “Worst Festival”

Another complaint focused on crowd behavior in the VIP area. The attendee alleged there was pushing and shoving and expressed frustration over disputes involving people potentially being removed from the section.

Tickets Were Being Resold Before the Event

Facebook users reportedly offered general-admission tickets, camping wristbands and vehicle passes, with some saying friends had backed out of attending.

Rock the Country Had Already Faced Controversy

The Michigan complaints arrived after Rock the Country had attracted attention earlier in 2026 over changes to its broader touring lineup.

Ludacris was initially announced as part of the festival before disappearing from the lineup. His representative told PEOPLE that his inclusion resulted from a mix-up and that he was not supposed to participate. The initial announcement had generated backlash because of the festival’s perceived political associations.

Other lineup changes also attracted attention during the festival season. Rock the Country has featured performers including Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Jelly Roll, Blake Shelton, Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert and Hank Williams Jr. across its different stops, although each city receives a different lineup.

Rock the Country Continues After Michigan

Despite criticism from some Hastings attendees, the touring festival still has additional dates on its 2026 schedule.

Following Michigan, Rock the Country is scheduled to visit Ocala, Florida, on August 28 and 29 before heading to Hamburg, New York, on September 11 and 12.

The Michigan weekend therefore produced two very different stories. Onstage, Kid Rock returned to his home state as part of a lineup packed with established country and rock performers. Offstage, some attendees made clear that they were dissatisfied with aspects of the festival experience.

Whether those complaints lead organizers to make changes for future stops remains to be seen, but the reaction demonstrates how quickly operational problems can become part of the story surrounding even a star-filled music festival.
