James Gandolfini

James Gandolfini became one of television’s greatest actors through his role as Tony Soprano on The Sopranos.

His performance changed what a TV antihero could be: frightening, vulnerable, funny, cruel, wounded, and deeply human all at once. Gandolfini won multiple awards for the role, but he was also widely remembered by colleagues as generous and gentle off-screen.

He died in Rome in June 2013 at age 51. An autopsy found that Gandolfini died of a heart attack, with no evidence of substance abuse or foul play, according to a family spokesman.

John Candy

John Candy was one of the most beloved comedy actors of the 1980s and early 1990s.

He brought warmth to films like Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Splash, Spaceballs, Cool Runnings, and Home Alone. Candy was funny, but his best performances also had kindness and sadness underneath the jokes.

Candy died on March 4, 1994, at age 43 while filming Wagons East in Durango, Mexico. People reported that he died suddenly of a heart attack while working on the film.

Richard Lewis

Richard Lewis was known for a nervous, self-questioning, deeply personal comedy style that made him one of stand-up’s most distinctive voices.

Hulk Hogan

Born Terry Bollea, he became the face of wrestling’s 1980s boom through the red-and-yellow “Hulkamania” image, major WrestleMania moments, and later reinventions in WCW and WWE.

Hogan died in July 2025 at age 71. The Associated Press reported that a Florida medical examiner said his death was caused by a heart attack and that he had a history that included atrial fibrillation and leukemia.

Michael Clarke Duncan

Michael Clarke Duncan became unforgettable through his Oscar-nominated role as John Coffey in The Green Mile.

Before acting, he worked security jobs and took smaller film roles. His deep voice, towering presence, and emotional softness helped make The Green Mile one of the defining performances of his career.

Duncan died in September 2012 at age 54. The Guardian reported that he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he had been treated after a heart attack.
