Former Friend of D4vd Speaks Out as Singer Faces Trial in Celeste Rivas Hernandez Case

Michael Michael, August 26, 2026August 26, 2026

A former friend of singer D4vd has spoken publicly about their past relationship as the musician prepares to stand trial in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has pleaded not guilty to charges including first-degree murder and other offenses connected to Celeste’s death. A Los Angeles judge ruled in July 2026 that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial. Burke’s defense attorneys maintain that he did not kill the teenager.

Former Friend Reflects on Knowing D4vd

An unidentified former friend told Mirror US that learning about the allegations against Burke had forced him to reconsider behavior he witnessed before the singer’s arrest.

The source said he once considered Burke a friend and was struggling to reconcile the person he knew with the accusations now being made in court.

He went further when discussing what should happen if prosecutors ultimately prove their case, saying he believed there would be a “special place in hell” waiting for Burke.

Importantly, the source framed that condemnation conditionally. Burke has not been convicted, and the allegations against him remain subject to the criminal court process.

Friend Says Burke Became More Guarded

According to the former friend, Burke appeared increasingly distant and private during the period before his arrest.

He recalled Burke becoming more difficult to contact and more defensive when people questioned him about his personal life.

However, the source emphasized that he did not know what was happening behind closed doors and was not claiming that he recognized evidence of a crime at the time.

Only after learning about the prosecution’s allegations, he said, did some of those memories begin to feel different.

That distinction matters because changes in someone’s behavior do not independently establish guilt or prove knowledge of a crime.

Prosecutors Have Presented Their Case

Burke was arrested in April 2026 following a lengthy investigation into Celeste’s death.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office alleges that Burke killed Celeste in 2025 and later mutilated her remains. Her decomposed and dismembered body was discovered months later in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke.

Prosecutors also allege that Burke began a sexual relationship with Celeste when she was 13 and he was 18.

Burke has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following a multi-day preliminary hearing in July, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge determined there was sufficient evidence for Burke to stand trial.

Court Proceedings Revealed Additional Allegations

During the preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented testimony and evidence intended to establish their theory of what happened to Celeste.

Authorities allege that Burke killed the teenager because he feared disclosure of their alleged relationship could damage his growing music career.

The prosecution has also presented evidence concerning communications allegedly exchanged between Burke and Celeste as well as forensic evidence gathered during the investigation.

A preliminary hearing does not determine whether a defendant is guilty. Its purpose is to decide whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for criminal charges to proceed toward trial.

The judge’s decision therefore means Burke must face the accusations at trial, not that the allegations have already been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Former Friend Expresses Sympathy for Celeste’s Family

The former friend said the allegations described by prosecutors were deeply disturbing and expressed sympathy for Celeste’s relatives.

He said whatever friendship he once had with Burke could not outweigh his compassion for a young girl who died and a family dealing with her loss.

He was also careful to acknowledge the limitations of his account.

The source said he was not a witness to Celeste’s death and could speak only about his own interactions with Burke and how he now viewed them after learning what prosecutors allege.

That caveat is particularly significant while criminal proceedings remain active.

D4vd’s Attorneys Maintain His Innocence

Burke’s defense team has firmly rejected the prosecution’s allegations.

His attorneys have said the evidence will demonstrate that Burke did not murder Celeste and was not responsible for her death.

During court proceedings, the defense has also challenged aspects of the prosecution’s forensic evidence and interpretation of events.

Burke’s not-guilty plea means prosecutors will ultimately bear the burden of proving the charges beyond a reasonable doubt if the case proceeds to trial.

What Happens Next in the D4vd Case

The case reached an important milestone on July 27 when the judge ordered Burke to stand trial following the preliminary hearing.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors called 12 witnesses during that proceeding. Burke was scheduled to return to court on August 31 for further proceedings.

The former friend’s comments add a personal perspective to the intense attention surrounding the case, but they do not establish what happened to Celeste.

For now, the most important distinction remains between allegations and proven facts. Prosecutors say they have accumulated evidence tying Burke to Celeste’s killing, while his attorneys maintain his innocence.

Those competing claims will now move forward through the criminal justice system as the case heads toward trial.
