Tom Holland Says Marvel Has a Long-Term Plan for Spider-Man’s Future Beyond Peter Parker

Michael Michael, August 2, 2026August 2, 2026

Tom Holland has confirmed that discussions about Spider-Man’s future are already well underway, revealing that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have developed a long-term vision for eventually passing the iconic superhero mantle to a new actor.

Although Holland has made it clear that he is not leaving the role anytime soon, the actor says conversations about the next chapter of Spider-Man’s story began shortly after Spider-Man: No Way Home. He added that helping introduce the next generation of Spider-Man is one of the aspects of the role he is most excited about.

Holland says a succession plan already exists

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland explained that Marvel’s creative team has spent several years discussing how Spider-Man’s story could eventually continue beyond his version of Peter Parker.

“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Holland said.

He added that while those plans may evolve over time, the overall vision remains in place.

“It’s laid out. It’s gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.”

According to Holland, being involved in that transition is something he hopes to help shape whenever the time eventually comes.

He isn’t ready to leave Spider-Man just yet

Despite discussing the future, Holland emphasized that he still enjoys playing Peter Parker and hopes to continue portraying the character.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said he intends to remain Spider-Man “as long as they have me.”

He added that the success of future films will naturally influence how long his journey continues, making it clear that he is still enthusiastic about returning to the role.

Since debuting in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, Holland has become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s longest-serving live-action Spider-Man.

Miles Morales remains an important goal

Holland also expressed enthusiasm about eventually bringing Miles Morales into the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking about the possibility, he said he would like to help mentor the next actor taking on the Spider-Man mantle, much like Robert Downey Jr. supported him during the early years of his Marvel career.

Miles Morales has become one of Marvel’s most popular heroes through comic books and Sony’s Academy Award-winning Spider-Verse animated films, where he is voiced by Shameik Moore.

Within the MCU, Miles has already been referenced through his uncle Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, suggesting the character already exists somewhere within that universe.

While discussing Spider-Man’s future, Holland also voiced support for several different versions of the character existing simultaneously.

He praised Sony’s animated Spider-Verse films, describing them as some of the finest Spider-Man stories ever made. Holland also expressed enthusiasm for projects featuring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir, saying there is room for multiple interpretations of the iconic superhero.

According to Holland, the diversity of Spider-Man storytelling is one of the character’s greatest strengths.

Spider-Man continues expanding across Marvel

Spider-Man has become one of Marvel’s most versatile characters, appearing across live-action films, animated features, television series and video games.

Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences have embraced the concept of multiple Spider-Men existing across the multiverse, creating opportunities for different actors and storylines to coexist.

With Holland returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel appears focused on continuing Peter Parker’s story while quietly preparing for the franchise’s future.

The next chapter remains a mystery

Although Holland confirmed that discussions about Spider-Man’s eventual successor are ongoing, neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has announced when that transition might occur.

For now, the actor remains firmly in the role, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day representing his latest adventure as Peter Parker. However, his comments suggest that whenever the day comes for another hero to wear the mask, Marvel already has a roadmap in place.

Whether that future belongs to Miles Morales or another Spider-Man remains one of the franchise’s biggest unanswered questions.
