Community service can mean different things.

For some celebrities, it means volunteering at shelters, serving meals, supporting schools, or helping local nonprofits. For others, it has meant court-ordered service after a legal case.

Jennifer Garner has become one of Hollywood’s most visible examples of hands-on community service. In 2025, she volunteered at The Midnight Mission’s Thanksgiving lunch on Skid Row in Los Angeles, serving people facing homelessness and food insecurity.

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck has also been connected to The Midnight Mission in Los Angeles. People reported that Garner previously volunteered there with Affleck and their children, and that Affleck has supported the organization for years after being introduced to it through a parent from his children’s school.

Naomi Campbell’s community service was court-ordered. In 2007, she was sentenced to five days of community service and ordered to attend anger management after admitting she threw a phone at her maid. The Guardian reported the sentence at the time.

Chris Brown was given community service as part of his sentence after his 2009 assault case involving Rihanna. His assigned tasks reportedly included picking up rubbish, painting walls, washing police cars and fire engines, and waxing floors.
