Here are famous people who served jail or prison time.

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart’s prison sentence became one of the most widely covered celebrity legal stories of the 2000s.

In 2004, Stewart was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and making false statements to federal investigators in connection with an ImClone stock-trading investigation. She was sentenced to five months in federal prison, followed by supervised release that included home confinement.

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback story is often discussed because it included addiction, repeated arrests, jail time, prison, recovery, and later global fame.

In 1999, Downey was sentenced to three years in a California state prison after violating probation tied to earlier drug-related cases. The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that he was given credit for 201 days already served.

Tim Allen

Before Home Improvement, Toy Story, and The Santa Clauses, Tim Allen served time in federal prison.

Allen was arrested in 1978 at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport with more than a pound of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges and served two years and four months in federal prison.

Mark Wahlberg

Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes served federal prison time after a tax case.

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill served prison time for failing to file tax returns.

In 2013, the singer, rapper, and actress was sentenced to three months in prison after failing to file federal tax returns on more than $2.3 million in income, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.

Lil’ Kim

Lil’ Kim served prison time after being convicted of perjury and conspiracy.

The rapper was convicted in 2005 in connection with testimony before a federal grand jury investigating a shooting outside a New York radio station. She was later released after serving about 10 months.

Lori Loughlin

Lori Loughlin served prison time for her role in the college admissions scandal.

The Full House actress pleaded guilty in 2020 in connection with payments made to help get her daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as athletic recruits. She was sentenced to two months in prison and was released in December 2020 after serving the term.

Felicity Huffman

The Desperate Housewives actress pleaded guilty after paying $15,000 to have an SAT proctor correct her daughter’s answers. She was sentenced to 14 days in prison, a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service, and one year of probation.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton served jail time in 2007 after violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless-driving case.

A judge initially sentenced her to 45 days in jail. She was briefly released to house arrest, then ordered back to jail, and ultimately served a shorter period than the original sentence.

Teresa Giudice

Teresa Giudice served prison time after a federal fraud case.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star was sentenced in 2014 to 15 months in prison on conspiracy and bankruptcy fraud charges. Her husband, Joe Giudice, received a longer sentence in the same case.

Abby Lee Miller

Meek Mill
