Highlander Star Christopher Lambert Collapses During Comic Con Appearance

Christopher Lambert gave fans a scare after suffering a medical emergency while appearing at Steel City Con near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, over the weekend.

The 69-year-old French actor, best known for playing Connor MacLeod in the 1986 fantasy action classic Highlander, reportedly collapsed while meeting fans on Saturday, August 8. Lambert was taken from the convention by ambulance, but representatives later said he was doing well. By Sunday, organizers had even announced that the actor was feeling better and planned to return to the event.

Lambert Collapses While Meeting Fans

Lambert was appearing at Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, where he was scheduled to sign autographs, take photographs and interact with fans.

According to TMZ, a witness said Lambert was signing autographs when he suddenly collapsed.

Emergency personnel responded, and the actor was transported by ambulance for medical attention.

Steel City Con initially provided limited information about what had happened, announcing that Lambert needed to leave because of a “personal issue.” His scheduled photo opportunity was also canceled.

The sudden departure understandably raised concerns among fans attending the convention.

His Representative Says He Is Okay

Fortunately, Lambert’s condition apparently improved quickly.

A representative told TMZ following the incident that the Mortal Kombat actor was “perfectly ok” and resting.

The representative initially attributed the episode to Lambert getting little sleep the previous night and not eating enough during the day, which they said resulted in his blood sugar dropping.

Subsequent reporting from PEOPLE said Lambert became overheated and dehydrated before collapsing.

There has been no indication that the incident involved a more serious underlying medical emergency.

Steel City Con Announces His Return

Fans received another encouraging update on Sunday, August 9.

Steel City Con announced that Lambert was feeling considerably better and was expected to return to the convention.

According to PEOPLE, organizers said the actor would be back for his Sunday photo opportunities and scheduled panel.

The update marked a significant turnaround from the previous afternoon, when attendees had watched Lambert leave the convention in an ambulance.

It also suggests that Lambert’s representatives remain confident about his immediate recovery.

Another Major Convention Is Coming Up

Lambert already has another public appearance scheduled only days after Steel City Con.

The actor is listed among the celebrity guests scheduled to attend FAN EXPO Chicago, which runs from August 14 through August 16 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

According to FAN EXPO’s official guest listing, Lambert is scheduled to appear Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

His representative reportedly indicated after Saturday’s incident that Lambert was still expected to be well enough to attend the Chicago event.

The official FAN EXPO schedule continues to list him as a guest.

Lambert Had Another Health Scare Last Year

Saturday’s incident was not the first time a health problem interfered with one of Lambert’s convention appearances.

In 2025, the actor reportedly injured his back after falling down a flight of stairs at a hotel.

The injury was serious enough to prevent him from attending the SciFiWorld convention in Sweden.

His representatives explained at the time that Lambert respected both convention organizers and the fans who attended such events but was physically unable to make the appearance.

The latest incident naturally generated additional concern because of that history, although representatives have emphasized that Lambert recovered quickly from Saturday’s collapse.

Highlander Made Lambert an International Star

Lambert has enjoyed a screen career spanning several decades, but for many movie fans he remains inseparable from Highlander.

Released in 1986, the fantasy adventure starred Lambert as immortal Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod. Sean Connery appeared as his mentor Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, while Clancy Brown played the villainous Kurgan.

Although Highlander was not initially a major American box-office success, it developed a passionate following through home video and international audiences.

The movie eventually spawned sequels, television series, novels and other projects, turning Highlander into a long-running fantasy franchise.

Lambert reprised Connor MacLeod in several sequels, including Highlander II: The Quickening, Highlander III: The Sorcerer and Highlander: Endgame.

Mortal Kombat Introduced Him to Another Generation

Lambert also became familiar to video game fans when he played Lord Raiden in 1995’s Mortal Kombat.

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the movie adapted the enormously popular fighting-game franchise and became a commercial success.
