Montel Williams Opens Up About His Past Relationship With Kamala Harris

Montel Williams has shared rare comments about his brief relationship with former Vice President Kamala Harris, making it clear that he has no interest in turning their decades-old romance into a continuing public conversation. The former television host addressed their history during a recent podcast appearance after years of renewed interest in the relationship.

Williams, who briefly dated Harris in 2001, said he believes relationships from decades ago should remain in the past. Although he spoke warmly about Harris and praised her intelligence, he emphasized that he respects his current marriage and does not want to capitalize on a romance that ended more than 20 years ago.

Williams Says He Will Not ‘Kiss and Tell’

During the July 6 episode of the “On Par with Maury Povich” podcast, Williams discussed the extraordinary attention his former relationship with Harris has received.

“I’m one of those guys who don’t kiss and tell,” Williams said, adding that who Harris dated decades ago “doesn’t matter.”

Williams explained that he was surprised by the intense public interest in their brief romance, particularly after Harris became a major figure in national politics.

He described the attention as “absolutely insane” but acknowledged that people cannot erase their personal histories.

Their Past Relationship Returned to the Spotlight

Williams and Harris reportedly dated for several months in 2001, when Harris was working as a prosecutor in California.

Their relationship largely remained a forgotten chapter in both of their lives until photographs of the former couple attending the Race to Erase MS gala resurfaced online.

Public curiosity intensified as Harris rose through American politics, eventually becoming vice president and later launching her 2024 presidential campaign.

Williams said he was astonished by how interested people became in a relationship that had ended more than two decades earlier.

Williams Praises Harris’ Intelligence

Although Williams has no interest in discussing intimate details about their relationship, he did not hesitate to praise Harris.

The former talk show host described her as “one of the smartest people” he has ever met.

Williams also suggested that there were misconceptions about Harris during her political career and rejected claims that she was unqualified to serve as president.

“Could she have done a good job? Without a doubt,” Williams said.

However, he argued that political circumstances and timing worked against her presidential ambitions.

He Makes a Strong Prediction About Future Elections

Williams also offered a controversial assessment of the possibility that a woman could be elected president of the United States in the immediate future.

With speculation continuing about whether Harris could pursue the presidency again in 2028, Williams expressed serious doubts about the country’s willingness to elect a female candidate.

“Anybody out there who thinks that America is gonna elect a woman in the next four or five years, you are crazy,” Williams told Povich.

Williams acknowledged that his comments could anger some listeners but maintained his position.

His remarks represented a broader observation about American politics rather than a criticism of Harris’ abilities.

Williams Says His Marriage Comes First

One of the main reasons Williams refuses to spend much time discussing Harris is his commitment to his wife, Tara Fowler.

Williams and Fowler have been married since 2007, while Harris married Doug Emhoff in 2014.

During an earlier podcast appearance, Williams explained that he does not enjoy reminiscing about former relationships because of the respect and love he has for his wife.

“I’m married, and I love my wife,” Williams said.

He described Fowler as his “savior” and explained that deliberately revisiting memories of past romances makes him uncomfortable.

Williams even admitted that thinking extensively about his relationship with Harris almost feels like being emotionally unfaithful to his wife.

“So, let’s leave it in the past,” he said.

Williams Has No Interest in Capitalizing on the Relationship

Despite continued public curiosity, Williams appears determined not to use his former relationship with Harris for publicity.

His comments make clear that he views their brief romance as a personal chapter that ended many years ago. While he remains willing to praise Harris’ intelligence and abilities, he has repeatedly refused to reveal private details about their time together.

For Williams, the issue appears relatively simple. Both he and Harris moved forward, married other people and built separate lives.

More than two decades later, he believes the public should do the same.
