Sophie Turner Reveals What She Actually Misses About America After Moving Back to England

Sophie Turner has made it clear that returning to England was the right decision for her, although there is one part of life in America she still misses.

The Game of Thrones star moved back to London following the end of her marriage to Joe Jonas and has spoken openly about feeling more comfortable surrounded by longtime friends and family. Asked recently whether she missed living in the United States, Turner gave a remarkably straightforward answer: “No, I don’t miss living in America.” There was, however, one exception.

Sophie Turner Says She Misses the American Sunshine

Turner, 30, discussed her move during an interview with Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald.

After spending years living in places including Los Angeles and Miami, she admitted that America’s warmer weather remains appealing.

“I do miss the sun, but that’s about it,” Turner said.

Her comments weren’t intended as a sweeping criticism of the United States. Instead, Turner explained that her preference for England largely comes down to the lifestyle, community and personal relationships she missed while living abroad.

British Pub Culture Was What Turner Missed Most

While sunshine is what Turner misses about America, she said one of the biggest things she longed for while living there was Britain’s pub culture.

“The thing that I missed the most was pub culture,” Turner said, particularly describing springtime when crowded pubs spill onto surrounding streets.

For Turner, the appeal is less about drinking and more about spontaneous social interaction.

She explained that she loves being able to walk through a neighborhood and encounter groups of people gathering and talking without needing to organize everything in advance.

“To me, that’s England,” she said.

Turner acknowledged that New York offers some of that same pedestrian lifestyle but said her experience in Los Angeles was different because she often needed to drive.

Turner Says She Felt Isolated in America

The actress also indicated that life in the United States could sometimes leave her feeling isolated.

Returning to Britain meant rediscovering familiar parts of everyday life, including the country’s distinctive humor and food.

Turner specifically mentioned British sarcasm, baked beans on toast, Jaffa Cakes and British chocolate among the things she was happy to have back in her life.

Behind the lighter examples was something considerably more important: being close to people who knew her before she became internationally famous.

Childhood Friends Helped Make England Feel Like Home

Turner previously discussed her decision to return to Britain in a 2025 interview with Flaunt.

She said she had gained a new appreciation for her childhood friendships after spending years away from England.

“Living in the States, I didn’t appreciate how much you need friends and family and how integral they are to your wellness until you’re away from them,” she explained.

Coming home consequently gave Turner what she described as an “abundance of appreciation” for those relationships.

She was so happy with the move that she said she “never” wanted to relocate again.

Her Return Followed Her Split From Joe Jonas

Turner’s move came during a major period of change in her personal life.

She and Jonas began dating in 2016 after the Jonas Brothers musician contacted her through Instagram. They met in person at a British pub and announced their engagement the following year.

The couple married in Las Vegas in May 2019 before holding another wedding celebration in France.

They subsequently welcomed two daughters, Willa and Delphine.

Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023 after four years of marriage, beginning a highly publicized separation that also involved discussions over arrangements for their children.

Their divorce was finalized in 2024.

Turner Has Built a New Chapter in London

Moving home has allowed Turner to establish a different rhythm after years of major professional and personal changes.

She grew up in England before becoming internationally famous as Sansa Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, a role she began playing as a teenager.

The enormous success of the series transformed her life, and her subsequent marriage brought another level of public attention.

Returning to London therefore represented more than simply changing addresses. It gave Turner an opportunity to reconnect with the environment and relationships that existed before much of that fame.

Joe Jonas Praises Their Co Parenting Relationship

Despite the difficulties surrounding their initial separation, Jonas has recently spoken positively about parenting alongside Turner.

During an appearance on the Hey Jonas podcast, the singer described himself as grateful to have a co-parent who can help balance the difficult moments of raising children.

“I’m grateful that I have a co-parent that I can balance even the bad days,” Jonas said.

He also reflected on how becoming a father had changed his perspective, explaining that spending time with his daughters can quickly remind him what matters during difficult periods.

Turner Appears Happy to Be Home

Turner’s latest comments suggest that she has little desire to recreate her previous American lifestyle.

What she missed most while living abroad wasn’t celebrity opportunities or Hollywood itself. It was something much more ordinary: family, old friends, familiar food, British humor and the ability to walk down the street and find a crowded neighborhood pub.

America still has one advantage in her eyes.

The sunshine.

Everything else Turner says she was missing appears to be waiting for her back home in England.
