Tracy Lawrence Explains Why He Stepped Away From Acting Opportunities in Los Angeles

Country music star Tracy Lawrence is opening up about why he no longer pursues acting opportunities in Los Angeles, saying recent experiences in California left him discouraged. During a candid podcast interview, the singer discussed the challenges he associates with working in the state, ranging from the cost of doing business to his overall impression of the current environment.

Although Lawrence remains committed to touring and has upcoming performances scheduled in California, he said the experience of working there has contributed to his decision to shift his focus back toward music.

Tracy Lawrence Reflects on His Acting Experience

Speaking on the Like a Farmer podcast, Lawrence revealed that he had spent several years working with acting coaches while exploring opportunities in film and television.

However, after traveling to Los Angeles for a recent acting project, he said he ultimately decided to stop pursuing that path. Lawrence described his visits to California as “disheartening” and explained that he had chosen to “pull the plug” on his acting ambitions.

His comments reflected his personal experience and reasons for changing career direction.

Concerns About the Cost of Touring in California

Lawrence also discussed the financial challenges he believes come with performing in California.

He pointed to high fuel prices, transportation costs, and taxes as significant expenses for touring artists. Lawrence noted that traveling with buses, trucks, equipment, and crew members can become considerably more expensive in the state, making concert tours less profitable.

Despite those concerns, he confirmed that he still plans to perform a number of scheduled concerts in California later this year.

Comparing California Touring With Canada

During the interview, Lawrence compared touring in California with performing in Canada.

He said that, from a financial standpoint, he considers both destinations similarly challenging because of the costs associated with transporting equipment and operating large touring productions. His comments focused on the business realities of touring rather than the audiences attending the concerts.

Lawrence emphasized that rising operational expenses have become an increasingly important consideration for touring musicians.

Calling for Music to Unite People

Earlier this year, Lawrence addressed a different topic during an episode of his own podcast, TL’s Road House.

Discussing today’s political climate, he encouraged people to keep politics separate from music whenever possible. Lawrence said he believes music should serve as a shared experience that brings people together regardless of differing viewpoints.

He explained that while individuals may have different backgrounds and opinions, a common appreciation for music has the power to create meaningful connections.

New Acting Role Still on the Horizon

Although Lawrence says he has stepped away from actively pursuing acting in Los Angeles, fans will still see him on screen in the upcoming Netflix mystery thriller Heartland.

The film stars Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain alongside country singer Carter Faith and follows the story of a former country music star searching for her missing niece in Nashville. Lawrence’s appearance in the project reflects one of the acting opportunities he completed before deciding to scale back his efforts in Hollywood.

Whether through music or occasional film roles, Lawrence continues to expand his career while remaining focused on the industry that first made him a household name.
