Ella Langley Makes Hot 100 History as ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Reaches a Remarkable 17 Weeks at No. 1

Ella Langley has reached another major career milestone as “Choosin’ Texas” extends its extraordinary run atop the Billboard Hot 100. The country star’s breakout smash has now spent 17 weeks at No. 1, giving it sole possession of the fourth-longest reign in the chart’s history.

The achievement puts Langley in exceptionally rare company. Since the Hot 100 began in August 1958, only three songs have accumulated more weeks at No. 1. For an artist whose national profile has risen dramatically in recent years, the accomplishment represents one of the defining moments of her career.

‘Choosin’ Texas’ Extends Its Historic Run

According to Billboard, “Choosin’ Texas” holds the top position on the Hot 100 dated August 15, 2026, marking its 17th week at No. 1.

The song first reached the summit in February and has demonstrated remarkable staying power during the months since. Its latest week on top moves it beyond several enormously successful singles that previously spent 16 weeks at No. 1.

That distinction gives Langley a place in a remarkably small group of performers capable of sustaining a chart-topping single for four months or longer.

Only Three Songs Have Spent Longer at No. 1

“Choosin’ Texas” now stands behind only three recordings when ranked by total weeks atop the Hot 100.

Mariah Carey holds the record with “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has accumulated 22 weeks at No. 1 across its recurring holiday chart runs through the 2025-26 season.

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, are tied behind Carey with 19 weeks each.

Langley follows with 17 weeks, placing “Choosin’ Texas” ahead of three famous 16-week chart leaders: Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.”

A Huge Moment for Country Music

Langley’s achievement also continues country music’s strong presence on the Hot 100.

For decades, success on country-specific rankings did not necessarily translate into extended domination of Billboard’s all-genre flagship singles chart. Recent years, however, have produced several notable exceptions.

Morgan Wallen spent 16 weeks at No. 1 with “Last Night” in 2023, while Shaboozey followed with his record-setting 19-week run for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” in 2024.

Now Langley has joined that select company, with “Choosin’ Texas” surpassing Wallen’s run and moving within two weeks of Shaboozey’s mark.

Ariana Grande Has Two Songs in the Top Five

Langley may remain at No. 1, but Ariana Grande is applying considerable chart pressure with music from her new album, petal.

Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” rebounds from No. 8 to No. 2 after previously debuting at the top of the Hot 100 in May. Meanwhile, “petal,” the album’s title track, enters the chart at No. 4.

That gives Grande two simultaneous songs inside the top five.

The album itself also arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming Grande’s seventh chart-topping album, according to Billboard. Her strong showing means Langley is maintaining the Hot 100 crown during a particularly competitive release period.

How Billboard Determines the Hot 100

The Hot 100 is designed to measure the most popular songs in the United States across multiple forms of music consumption rather than relying on a single metric.

Billboard combines official audio and video streaming activity, radio airplay and eligible sales information to calculate the weekly ranking. Data provider Luminate reviews submissions before the final charts are compiled.

That makes a 17-week stay at No. 1 especially notable. A song must maintain significant overall consumption and audience interest while competing against new releases arriving every week.

For “Choosin’ Texas,” that momentum has continued for months.

Langley Is Now Chasing an Even Bigger Recor

The question now is how much longer “Choosin’ Texas” can remain on top.

Another two weeks at No. 1 would bring Langley to 19 total weeks, tying “Old Town Road” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” for the second-longest reign in Hot 100 history. Reaching Mariah Carey’s 22-week record would require an even longer extension of its already remarkable run.

Whether it reaches either milestone remains to be seen, particularly with major releases such as Grande’s new material competing for listeners.

What is already certain, however, is that “Choosin’ Texas” has secured its place in Billboard history. Seventeen weeks at No. 1 takes Langley beyond simply having a major hit and puts her name alongside artists responsible for some of the longest-running chart-toppers the Hot 100 has ever seen.
