George and Amal Clooney have received welcome news after being forced to evacuate their French home during the devastating wildfires that swept through southeastern France last week. Local officials have confirmed that residents of Brignoles can safely return, easing concerns about the future of the couple’s countryside estate.

The Clooneys, who have made the Provence region their primary home in recent years, were among hundreds of residents temporarily displaced as firefighters battled the fast-moving blaze.

Wildfire prompted emergency evacuation

The fire broke out near Brignoles on July 30, burning hundreds of acres and prompting authorities to evacuate approximately 600 residents, including the Clooney family.

Local officials say residents can return

Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond later announced that the immediate danger had eased and that evacuated residents were permitted to return home.

In a Facebook update, the mayor said firefighters remained on constant watch despite calmer conditions and noted that helicopters continued monitoring the area for any remaining hotspots.

He also explained that some roads would remain temporarily closed while emergency crews completed safety inspections and cleanup operations.

The announcement provided reassurance to homeowners who had spent days waiting for news about their properties.

The Clooneys have built a life in France

George and Amal purchased their French estate, Domaine du Canadel, in 2021.

The expansive property reportedly includes vineyards, gardens, a swimming pool, a tennis court and a private lake, offering the family a quiet retreat away from public attention.

Although the couple also owns homes in locations including Italy and the United States, they have increasingly established their family life in France. In 2025, George and Amal were granted French citizenship, further strengthening their connection to the country.

George Clooney pledges support for the community

As the wildfire threatened Brignoles, George Clooney sent a letter to Mayor Brémond expressing concern for the town and its residents.

He wrote that while the fate of his family’s home remained unknown during the evacuation, their primary concern was the safety of the community.

Clooney also emphasized that he and Amal intended to remain committed members of Brignoles regardless of the wildfire’s impact, adding that they would help the town recover if necessary.

The actor concluded by expressing his affection for the community and the friendships his family has built there.
